I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City, OK – 7/28
Fischer Racing effectively had a home race this past Saturday at Oklahoma City’s I-44 Riverside Speedway. The POWRi West midget series is just past the mid-season point where are sitting 6th in the standings. Twenty-three cars showed up for the 1-day show at the ¼ mile red dirt track and the Flying Tee Golf sponsored #24 was ready for a great night of racing!
With a random draw for starting positions, our driver Hunter Fischer drew another outside pole starting position in Heat 1. As luck would have it, the heat race also included the Top 3 point runners in the league, so we had our work cut out for us! We decided to try something new with the gearing on this track and hoped we could gain more speed around the track. The BOSS chassis, Esslinger powered midget took off like a rocket on the start. Running the high line, Hunter led the first couple of laps before getting a little too deep into the cushion in turns 3 & 4, allowing the league leader to get around him. Back on the gas, Hunter ran a solid 2nd place and was the sixth high point earner, making the A Feature.
The top six after the heat races are once again placed into a random starting position based on the roll of a dice. The number rolled determines how many positions get inverted to start the A Feature. Our #24 qualified 6th overall and had a chance to start further up in the field. Not so lucky this time, a #1 appeared, keeping the lineup unchanged (a #6 would have placed us on the pole). At the drop of the green flag, Hunter stayed at the top of the track trying to find any moisture available. By the first yellow flag, we were up to 5th place, but Hunter was onto something. Knocking on the door of 4th place, he shot to the middle of the track and found some rubber starting to form on the track. After another yellow flag, the #24 made it into 4th place with only a few laps remaining. Hammer down and hitting his marks, Hunter secured the team’s season best finish in 4th! Rolling in on burned out rear tires and discovering a severed brake hose made the feat even more amazing.
Sounding like a broken record, Eric Fenton with the POWRi West has supported us every week as a friend and promoter. With our truck still out of commission, Eric let us tag along with his Jet Motorsports/BOSS Chassis team to ensure we got to the race track. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Flying Tee Golf is our sponsor, based on the Riverwalk in Jenks. Many of our friends have discovered how much fun it is to wack some golf balls without having to chase them around, while having good food, cold drinks, and lots of laughs! Take the family out and have a good time. Find the #24 out at the track or hit Hunter up online and get some BOGO coupons!
Next week we are heading up to Pevely, MO (just outside St. Louis) for a 2-day race with the World of Outlaws at I-55 Raceway... come see us!
